09:07 < AlexBand_RIPENCC> Hello. Welcome to the AP-WG. My name is Alex Band from the RIPE NCC. I will be monitoring chat during this session. If you have a question or comment, I can read it out for you. Please make your questions as clear as possible. I will read out any questions when the speaker asks for questions at the end of his/her presentation. Please note that all chat transcripts will be archived and made available to the public on https://ripe64.ripe.net/

10:05 < jhp_48972> Ok. Works again.
10:05 < masterF00> at least the stream i use works fine so far, better than ever
10:05 < lear> try rtsp://webcast.ripe.net:1935/live/ripe in your favorite player
10:05 < jhp_48972> Thank you
10:08 < masterF00> That new approach seems fine *shrug* so no tomatoes, needs based is in, all fine.
10:08 < lear> One concern I have is if LIRs offering service to small businesses start "selling" their v4 blocks and at the same time price out "rent" on the microblocks they charge.
10:09 < lear> that would place ipv6 transition on the backs of small businesses
10:09 < AlexBand_RIPENCC> @lear: is that a comment you would like me read out at the mic?
10:09 < masterF00> i doubt that, intelligent people will just use IPv6 and pay nothing :)
10:09 < lear> Please - "Eliot Lear"
10:09 < AlexBand_RIPENCC> allright

10:11 < lear> thank you, alex
10:11 < AlexBand_RIPENCC> cheers
10:11 < Unc> masterF00 inteligent people not exist but bussines exist is simple
10:11 < masterF00> unc: nah that's wrong, people who run businesses who think they need Ipv4, they also can raise the money they need to buy IPv4 resources
10:11 -!- raph_50620 [~c16b7f08 [at] rosie-arch [dot] ipv6 [dot] ripe [dot] net] has quit [Quit: CGI:IRC (EOF)]
10:11 < masterF00> that's fine then
10:12 < masterF00> for everyone else, there's ipv6, and probably some transition methods
10:12 < masterF00> like i said on the mailinglist, i have no problems with money being involved at all... there are alternatives. i just had a problem with the original proposal due to some wording and leaving out needs based evaluation, so i'm fine now with the new approach
10:13 < Unc> masterF00: people need becouse they don't want implement ipv6 so inteligent people not exist
10:13 < Unc> thay go simple way
10:13 < lear> if an end user wants to sell off addresses, I think that's fine
10:13 < masterF00> time will tell :)
10:14 < lear> if an LIR that is not renting those addresses wants to sell them because it's transitioning, fine
10:14 < lear> it's when they pull them from use by their customers that i get concerned
10:14 < lear> in order to sell them
10:14 < lear> and why wouldn't they do that? they're assets
10:15 < lear> the end customer would have to pay the going rate, right?
10:15 < masterF00> why not? that's also market, customers can leave
10:15 < masterF00> that's the beauty of the market and money :)
10:15 < BSS27-RIPE> buy CGN - Sell all IPv4 to support your shellout - I can see the business model in that
10:16 < BSS27-RIPE> not intelligent - indeed
10:16 < masterF00> yes, why not *shrug* (but the CGN will cost more)
10:16 < AlexBand_RIPENCC> Remco's presentation has ended
10:16 < lear> i don't see why competitors wouldn't play the same game
10:16 < Unc> guess
10:16 < BSS27-RIPE> lear: good - then there'll be nobody to buy the IPs
10:16 < masterF00> that just means no customer has a problem with that
10:16 < masterF00> so, fine
10:17 < lear> no, it's not fine. your logic is based on the notion that ipv6 gets deployed
10:17 < masterF00> sure it will, no worries there
10:17 < lear> a premium can be imposed ABSENT ipv6 deployment
10:18 < lear> and keep in mind that most small business customers are still on ipv4
10:18 < lear> ok, have a good coffee break
10:18 < masterF00> give it time, just give it time :)
10:18 < AlexBand_RIPENCC> Gert has closed the session. Thanks everyone for your comments, was a good read!
